Well its been another funny old weekend with almost all of our supported athletes and teams having events called off. However, a couple of events did go ahead and most of our athletes did manage to get some more training in!
The Team Russell athletes were back out on their last cross country of the season (with a collective sigh of relief I would guess!) with the team at the English School’s Cross Country Championships.
Almost all of these athletes are using the cross country season as a warm up to the track season so to have 5 athletes in the championships is a great achievement. with 3 making their debut, 2 top 50 finishes with another just outside and 4 of them still have another year in their age group. There were some ups and downs within the team but a strong performance by all 5 athletes left their coach very pleased.
A special mention to Emily Simpson for whom this was her last English School’s Cross Country and her 9th English Schools Championships, fingers crossed for finishing the summer at the track champs to make it a nice round 10!
Training rather than racing
With a number of events called off, including the Fleet Half Marathon which Yiannis was meant to be competing in, most of our athletes still managed to get out and have a run, or in Helen Russell’s case stay indoors and indoor Kayak. Keep up to date on what each is doing through their twitter profiles which can all be found on their personal pages here.
There were also 2 great videos posted from 2 of our supported athletes about their training over the last week:

One last thing
We had some sad news from The “Mohican Runner” that his challenge for this year is having to be slightly delayed due to a family illness. We wish him and his family all the very very best and he has posted this week that he will now add the Sheffield Childrens Hospital as a charity along with the NSPCC that he will help with his charity events this year. We will continue to support him in this as and when he is able to start on this challenge.
