It was a slightly quieter weekend than normal for most of our supported athletes. Training in the hills of Snowdonia and on the track for our 2 multi eventers in the build up to the season getting fully underway in the next couple of weeks.
We did have some athletes and teams in action though and there were some great results out there, so here is a quick run through.
Adam Holland: After a stormy start to Sunday morning in Southampton Adam lined up on the start line of the Southampton Marathon knowing that a fast time wasn’t going to be easy. However, Adam managed to clock a time of 2:46:19 to finish in fantastic 3rd place!!
Team Russell Athletics: On a sunny and warm day in London there were 3 of the team Russell athletes on show at the prestigious Mini Marathon representing Yorkshire and Humberside. Annie finished 38th in her age group after battling illness in the last week, but is determined to be back next year, Zak finished in 25th place in his age group (he still has a year in the age group) while Cyanne finished in 24th in her age group. Huge congratulations for these fantastic finishes!
The South Yorkshire Track and Field League also saw some brilliant personal bests set for the junior athletes as well. Well done to all those involved!
Cycling Sheffield: It was a tough weekend for our cycling team. Taking part in the Rutland Cicle Classic which is a high profile UCI race with many top teams taking part. The team were well placed until the off-road sections started (the Rutland equivalent to the “Pave” of the cobbled classics) where a combination of mass punctures and congested roads meant support vehicle access was limited saw the riders drop away from the lead groups. Unfortunately they couldn’t rejoin but the full time got home safely which was part of the aim. As the DS said in his race debrief its all a learning curve and about building their race-craft in races against this level of competition and this will certainly have done that.
