Well June has gone by far too quickly and we’ve been very busy here at Sweet Peaks Towers so my huge apologies for not updating people on the brilliant results our supported Athletes and Teams have been getting. If you want to keep more instantly up to date please follow us on Twitter as we retweet and are tagged in some of these great results. In this post I will give a quick rundown of some of the best of June, if I miss anything out please accept my sincere apologies!
First off though a bit of a throw back. When we started Sweet Peaks one of the first supported teams was EnvelopeMaster-Giant Cycling which is now Cycling-Sheffield who we are still very proud to support. On that team was a certain Connor Swift (brother of, then, Team Sky Rider Ben Swift). Last weekend Connor, now at Madison Genesis, won the HSBC National Road Race title beating full Pro riders, Grand tour riders and Olympic Champions! Huge Congratulations to Connor and to Dave Coulson the DS at Cycling-Sheffield who helped nurture and grow Connor on his path to the National title!
Anyway on to the results from June
A great month with an Overall Individual Win at the Giro Del Mon stage race, also the Team Win, King of the Mountains Jersey, U23 Win and stage 1 Win!
Following this great success there was a 3rd place win at the Sam Walton Memorial RR and also a 4 day trip to Belgium where the racing is always tough with a very high standard of very street wise racers. A 7th and 9th were fantastic results in themselves with other promising results during the stay topping up the team prize fund nicely!
All eyes are on some up coming “home” races with the Otley Grand Prix coming up and the true home race Sheffield Grand Prix (once again we will have “Sweet Peaks Corner” sponsored at the race) on July 18th!
The Giants have had a successful June culminating in a massive 59-38 win against Edinburgh Wolves which now leaves their season nicely balanced at 4-3.
Helen has begun the Quadrathlon Trophy series in great form. The 6 race series is the top level for GB Quadrathletes and Helen is determined to win it in 2018 and she is well on her way with 2 wins already and leading the series.
Yiannis has his sights very much set on the World Aquathlon Championships in Denmark on 12th June where he will once again Captain the side (a great accolade again well done!). Training is all being aimed at this but he has also warmed up with a win, and course record, at the Dartford Bridge Aquathlon.
Good Luck in Denmark Yiannis!
Adam has had another very very busy month and while writing this he is on his 8th Marathon in 10 days at the 10 in 10 Great Barrow Challenge!
He has also won the Yeovil Marathon with a course record and came 2nd in the Devon track 10km… to name a few. Adam is always active he runs 24hr races (to just see how far he can get!) and also numerous park runs around the country where he is very happy to meet people and talk to them. Keep up to date on his whereabouts through his website and twitter (more information can be found on his biog page here)
Red has had some really good success in June too with 2nd place finishes at the Southern Criterium Champs, 2nd at Thruxton and a 2nd at the Portsmouth NECC Road Race. Lets hope he can get on the top step in July, he is certainly training hard as can be seen on his YouTube Channel!
The Mohican Runner
Rich has had some great success in June too with wins at the Northern Masters Track 800m and 1500m along with the multi terrain 5km. All of this while keeping on with his 2018 charity challenge.
Team Russell Athletics
Last but by no means least is team Russell. All the team have had a great June with some fantastic results and times from all the team from U8s all the way through to the U20 runners.
The next week or so are all aimed at the English Schools Athletics Championships where some great results are possible for our key athletes (separately supported) Emily Simpson (in her 10th and last champs), Cyane Robinson & Esther Rowe-Towle.. good luck to all!
